MediaVerify for Windows — READ THIS FIRST
=========================================

MediaVerify is free. There is one version and every feature is included —
nothing to buy, no license key, no sign-in.

Because it is not signed with a paid Microsoft certificate yet, Windows will
warn you ONCE. That is expected. Below is exactly what you will see and what
to click.

WHAT'S IN THIS ZIP
------------------
MediaVerify Setup 0.4.0.exe <- the installer (about 83 MB)
  READ-ME-FIRST.txt <- this file

STEP 1 — Unzip it properly
--------------------------
Right-click the .zip file, choose "Extract All...", pick a folder, click
Extract. Then run the .exe FROM THE EXTRACTED FOLDER.

Do not double-click the .exe while it is still inside the zip preview window.
Windows runs it from a temporary location and it can fail with no message.

STEP 2 — If your browser blocked the download
---------------------------------------------
If you downloaded this yourself and ended up with a file ending in
".crdownload" (Chrome) or ".partial" (Edge), that is an UNFINISHED DOWNLOAD,
not the app. It will never run. Chrome and Edge sometimes block unsigned
installers mid-download.

To finish it:
Chrome: open Downloads (Ctrl+J), find the blocked item, click the "..."
menu, choose "Keep", then confirm "Keep anyway".
Edge: open Downloads (Ctrl+J), hover the blocked item, click "...",
choose "Keep" > "Show more" > "Keep anyway".

The file should end in ".exe" and be about 83 MB when it is complete.

STEP 3 — Run the installer
--------------------------
Double-click "MediaVerify Setup 0.4.0.exe".

Windows shows a blue box: "Windows protected your PC" (SmartScreen).
  1. Click "More info" (small link in the blue box).
  2. Click the "Run anyway" button that appears.

This appears for any app that has not paid for a code-signing certificate. It
does not mean anything is wrong with the file. After installing, MediaVerify
opens from the Start menu with no warning.

STEP 4 — Antivirus
------------------
Some antivirus tools quarantine unsigned installers. If the .exe disappears
after downloading, check your antivirus quarantine and restore it, or add the
folder as an exclusion before extracting.

WHAT MEDIAVERIFY DOES
---------------------
It checks an SD card against your backup drive using the footage's embedded
camera metadata rather than filenames, and tells you what is still ONLY on the
card — so you know whether the card is safe to erase.

Scan — pick a card, pick a backup drive, run the check.
Report — one A-Z list, missing files in red. Export PDF / CSV.

The Windows version currently includes Scan and Report. The Mac version also
has verified copy, production logs, sync, and card erase.

IF IT STILL DOESN'T WORK
------------------------
Tell Matt these four things and he can pin it down fast:
  1. Your Windows version (Settings > System > About > "Edition" and "Version")
  2. The exact size of the .exe you have (right-click > Properties)
  3. The exact wording of any error message, or a screenshot
  4. Where it stopped: download, extract, SmartScreen, install, or first launch
