MediaVerify
Opening it the first time.
MediaVerify is free and there is only one version — every feature is included, nothing to buy or unlock. It isn’t signed with a paid Apple or Microsoft certificate, so your computer warns you once the first time you open it. That warning is about the certificate, not about the app. After you allow it once, it opens normally forever.
Mac
Apple Silicon (M1–M4), macOS 14 Sonoma or newer.
- Open the downloaded
.zip, then drag MediaVerify into your Applications folder. - Double-click it. macOS says it “can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.” Click Cancel.
- Open System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security and scroll down. You’ll see “MediaVerify was blocked to protect your Mac.” Click Open Anywayand confirm with your password or Touch ID.
- Double-click MediaVerify again, then click Open. Done.
If step 3 never shows an Open Anyway button, open Terminal and paste this, then try step 2 again:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/MediaVerify.appWindows
Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
- Run the downloaded MediaVerify Setup
.exe. - Windows may show a blue “Windows protected your PC” box (SmartScreen). This appears for any app without a paid certificate.
- Click More info, then Run anyway.
- The installer runs normally. MediaVerify opens from the Start menu from then on, with no further warning.
Why the warning?
Apple and Microsoft show these prompts for any app that hasn’t paid into their code-signing programs — roughly $99/year for Apple and $100–400/year for a Windows certificate. MediaVerify skips that so it can stay completely free. If it’s ever signed, the warning disappears and none of these steps are needed.
What it does
- Scan— check an SD card against your backup drives using the footage’s embedded camera metadata, not filenames. See exactly what is still only on the card.
- Report — one A–Z list with missing files in red; preview clips, export PDF/CSV, and rescue missing files in one click.
- Copy — copy a card to a drive with every file verified byte-for-byte. (Mac)
- Production Log — export the transfer record as PDF or industry-standard ASC-MHL. (Mac)
- Sync — auto-copy a card to a drive on insertion or on a daily schedule. (Mac)
- Erase Card — wipe a verified card and rebuild the camera folder structure, or reformat a drive. (Mac)
The Windows version currently includes Scan and Report; the Mac version includes everything above.
